A client who was developing a startup needed art designed for 3 post cards focused on a strong political message. They wanted the post cards to be unifying, not divisive/highly political; uplifting and accessible, not histrionic or elitist. What I decided to design was a set of three post cards:

  • The first post card is a Gwendolyn Brooks quote provided by the client. I decided to hand letter the type, conveying an intimate, handmade feel to a mass-produced card.
  • The second post card is a photograph of the Statue of Liberty with a dramatic and colorful sunburst filter applied. Text across the card reads "Nevertheless, She Persisted," a phrase adopted by the U.S. feminist movement in 2017.
  • The third post card is a vintage photo of the woman suffrage movement in the U.S. In the photo, a line of women stand in protest outside the White House in Washington, D.C. I placed a colorful gradient over the top of the photo, along with the quote, "Never doubt that a thoughtful group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
